Praying for a topless TOP

Bless you fan girls.

Seriously, bless your little idol chibi fan girl socks, all of you.

Everything else in the world can change but one thing will always remain constant and that is the pervertedness of fan girls!

AllKpop lately announced that Kim Ha Neul (we love her because she is Sukkie/Momo’s owner in “Your’re My Pet”) has been chosen to lead in a remake of the Japanese hit Absolute Boyfriend (Zettai Kareshi) opposite none other than Choi Seung Hyun better known as Big Bang’s power rapper TOP!

It hasn’t been confirmed yet though rumours already have it that TOP is looking favourably on the role. For K-drama lovers this is great because KHN is reputedly really good and TOP has been getting critical acclaim for his work too.

Not to mention that casting him is also dead on because who looks more cyborg perfect boy friend than TOP? He’s a complete doll! He even dresses like a Ken doll most of the time, right?

Fan girls however have cut quickly and efficiently to the single most important point that this news implies. As anyone who’se read the manga or the anime knows, Absolute boyfriend is about a girl who orders and receives a perfect boyfriend in the form of a cyborg.

What is of optimum importance here is that the cyborg/boyfriend is delivered to her in a box.

Naked.

Did you catch that?

Naked.

This would be enough to cause heart attacks with any idol but with TOP there is a possibility that the very foundations of KPop world may shift beneath our feet as everything we thought we knew changes.

Why?

Pay attention. There are many mysteries in Kpop, but one of the greatest ones is the mystery of TOP’s naked torso.

In a world where every idol has at some time or other had to give chest and ab fan service, TOP is an idol that has not only stubbornly continued to cover up, but  has done so with frustrating layer after layer of annoyingly, all covering layered fashions and for five years no amount of begging, pleading or weeping on the part of VIPs has moved him to reveal so much as a nip shot. Not since that time years ago when freshly debuted, he mistakenly flashed a micrometer of flesh only to show some of the baby fat that was the plague of his teenage years.

KPop theorists have mulled deeply over the years on it. Why is TOP’s torso one of the best kept secrets in Kpop? What could he be hiding? Tattoos? Scars? Grotesquely distended skin? Popular opinion has been forced to conclude that it can be none of these things due to various clues.

What makes it worse is that his co-Big Bang members have openly confided that TOP has the best chest of them all. People. We are talking about a group that includes the glorious torsos of Dong Young Bae and Kang Daesung. I personally believe they were trolling us when they said that.

So this is the gravitas that hangs around the possibility of TOP being in a movie where at last, that which has been concealed will finally be revealed to us.

I expect there will be a great blinding light.

I don’t plan on wearing sunglasses.

I think the general sentiment is best summarized by the hashtag banner of one commenter on the AKP thread:

Now let us spazz.

Neogogo is Soooooo Tired

Between Bobs. So tired and it shows! =_=

(this is my second pass at this post. There’s been no power since yesterday so I did the first one from my BB but it spazzed and instead of publishing it, lost the entire post. The ENTIRE post. *sigh* Third world blues y’all.)

I’m having fatigue issues y’all but that doesn’t stop me from missing this blog. And I miss my Kpop too!!!

I was watching the 3rd episode of 2ne1 tv yesterday (Yup, all in Hangul too. I swear I’m beginning to pick it up!) and I just about died when they showed GD and Teddy jamming in a YG studio!!! Skinny Gorgeous GD baby in a typically stylish cap and Teddy Oppa, wrapped up like a mummy with only his cute, mischievous face showing (thug life, baby!) SQUEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!>< And I think we got a preview of BB’s comeback song? If so, the sound is madly sexy and I fully approve!!!!!

(Screencaps cos it’s been a while and you deserve ’em)

Where I want to be (See space between Teddy and GD)

Oppa is so talented!!! *___*

Thug <333333333!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lips, throat...mph!

He. Is. Tryna. Kill. Us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's Singing! *sigh* Look at those cheek bones! *melts*

Throw ur BigBang gang sign, boo!

Oh but I’m loving the second season of 2ne1 TV even without the subtitles!! YG Ahjussi is the best for giving us this show! The girls are adorable and there’s so much interaction within the YG family which is just AWSOME!!! I love when GD makes fun of everyone’s choreography! I love how you could see different YG members in the audience at Taeyang’s solar concert (that choked me up a little! Lol!) In episode 3, Se7en-nim describes Minji’s turn in the “Can’t Nobody” MV as “Ero Minji” which made me almost fall out of my chair! For any true YG fan, this show is COMPULSORY WATCHING!!!!!!

(Moments from Eppy 3)

Rolling with my homies! The girls in LA!

He got teary at the end! Young-baeeeeee T.T!!!!

Bommie torturing her trainer! Lol!

And I have to say that I’m completely gay for 2ne1 girls! I just cannot express how utterly cute they are to me! And you all should know by now that I’m a complete sucker for cute. Yup. Can’t resist it, period.

And everyday my rankings for them changes. Today it’s: Bom, Minji, CL and Dara (wait, wasn’t that it yesterday too?<<). Anyway, it’s not that Dara is my least favourite, it’s more like I have extra soft spots for Bom and Minji and CL is just the BOSS!!!!!!!! In the show, I think Will. I. Am. liked CL and Minji best. He shook everyone’s hands but then he grabs CL and hugs her! And then he kept going “Minji!!” in this funny voice! Lol! I’m pretty sure he was hit by the cute too!

But enough with the fan girling. I had to get my behind over to the Club (like a country club not a night club!) so I could charge my batteries enough to make this post. I’m happy to say I’ve been a good little fan-girl and have been working on chapter 6 of my fanfic. Because of the power situation I’ve had to resort to the ancient methods of pen and paper which was kind of interesting. Haven’t done that since high school, really! Lol!

Anyway, now that I’m here, maybe I’ll transcribe. I’m really aiming to finish up by this weekend so please wish me luck.

Finally, it was my real live sweetie’s birthday on Oct 6th, so just want to say to the only man more beautiful than idols to me: Sang il chukhae hamnida! Sarangheo!

PS: Ooh almost forgot. Has anyone read this manhwa called 100% Perfect Girl by Wann? It starts with a quote from a Haruki Murakami short story? I’m reading it now and let me tell you it took me by surprise! I was expecting a sweet, funny and light love story because that’s what it looks like and starts like but boy! Was I wrong! What I’m getting is a disturbing, dark, twisted obsession story. Oh such a happy surprise! This is delicious dark chocolate! A perfect guilty pleasure read! Lol! (Yes, I’m mildly depraved, but we still love me, right?^^)

Are there African Bishounen?

This is a question that my significant other, Y, and I have pondered awhile.

We’ve tried many time to come up with examples (Maxwell? Tyson Beckford? Prince???) but none seemed to satisfy that unique criteria that made up that category the japanese so aptly named bishounen. Despite the fact that willowy male physiques are not foreign to Africa we could not place one single public figure that looked like he could have stepped out of the pages of a shoujo manga.

That is, we couldn’t until now.

I have to thank Gamine for this because it was a post she made on FB that led me to this amazing discovery.

People, the answer to the question is YES. Not only are there African bishounen, apparently there is a NIGERIAN bishounen.

Behold:

From Black Super Models Chronicles.  From Fashion Spot thread.

From Fashion Spot thread.

This is is Ty Ogunkoya.

He’s Nigerian and he’s very much a Bishounen.

Kimi Wa Petto, Sukkie and the Noonas.

If you’re familiar with Kimi wa Petto and also with Jang Keun Suk, then I probably don’t need to follow up my post header with an article. This smilie should suffice:

🙂

But I’ll do the article anyway.

Fangirl world is a mystical place.

It all started with the josei manga “kimi wa petto” (by Yayoi Ogawa) which has been on my must read list for the looooongest time. It’s a story about a beautiful, independent career woman with a not so great life who finds an injured bishounen and adopts him as her pet. For goodness sake, the first chapter of this manga is called ‘How to Raise a Bishounen” so anyone that knows me immediately gets this book was obviously written for me, right?

Only thing is fate keeps me and this manga apart. Every time I want to start it I’m having an internet blackout period or I’m completely buried at work. So years pass by and I more or less forget about it.

Then this year I discover (as the Taiwanese Press call him) Korean flower boy Jang Keun Suk or (as international fans like to call him) Sukkie. After seeing most of his work and more or less binging on his media exposure I immediately transformed into a shameless fangirl of what would be referred to in Korea as the Noona variety.  And I quickly found out I was not alone. Most of the other shameless Noona fangirls out there seemed to be thinking the same thing. We would adopt Sukkie as a pet in a second.

Then when Sukkie (calculatedly?) expressed the desire to act the role of a young man in love with a noona, after much waaaaaaahhhhhing!!! and kyaaaaaaaaaaaaing!!!, visions of kimi wa petto danced before our eyes and some of us even dared to hope that  we may see with our eyes what our minds had long fantasized.

But it had already been announced that the show was going to be remade in Korea and that precious role was to go to  cute Kim Hyun Joong of Kpop boygroup SS501. So the truth was we were being unrealistic.

But then this morning, like our cups of joy were not already full from images and footage of Sukkie’s truimphant fan meet in Taiwan, the news arrived and our cups officially runneth over!!! Lol!

Sukkie will be Momo (the pet bishounen) and all is right with the world.

He’s already been playing with the mop like hairdo. We know he has the acting chops and the charisma to pull off the role though the general consensus is that he has big shoes to fill in following Matsumoto Jun’s reportedly outstanding performance in the japanese dorama version. My only worry is the ballet but we’ll see, I guess.

I’m reading the manga now and will follow up with the dorama then i don’t know what I’ll do to contain my anticipation!!! I guess go on forums and natter on endlessly about it.

But for now, I am purring in contentment.:3

UPDATE: Wow! Almost forgot to mention. The sensational news was broken by the dramabeans blog, a good source of all things Kpop and Dorama!

Current Shoujo Reading

Skip Beat and Nodame Cantabile

It’s really, really hard to download ANYTHING in this country which I suppose is good because it forces you to develop patience and a Zen attitude (theoretically, at least). What this means, however, is that at any given time I am always in the middle of between two and fifteen different manga titles. Most of which are off my favourite genre; shoujo.

Right now, because our internet is being seriously erratic, I am only downloading volumes of both Skip Beat by Nakamura Yoshiki and Nodame Cantabile by Tomoko Ninimiya , one painful volume at a time.

I am dedicating this post to my opinions on both.

Skip Beat

This title only came to my notice recently because of its being released as part of the line up of anime being shown in Japan this Fall. It got some good ratings so Y and I added it to the list of animes we are currently downloading. After seeing episode one, and finding it so so, I had a feeling that this was probably a shoujo I would prefer on page rather than on screen. I downloaded volume one (took a whole day) and found I was right.

First I realised that this was a mangaka I was familiar with. I read and was thoroughly addicted to Tokyo Crazy Paradise by the same author just last year. It’s a title I would recommend to anyone about a non-typical shoujo heroine who ends up being the body guard of an extremely young and aristocratic yakuza boss.

Skip Beat is similar in that it also features a non-typical shoujo heroine. Mogami Kyoko turns from a self sacrificing angel to a vengeance obsessed demon when she discovers that the love of her life who she has even given up high school for is actually cynically using her as his house girl whilst clawing his way to pop stardom. He becomes a big untouchable star and she swears revenge but how can a pleb (which is what she is) have any hope of affecting a pop idol?

A few people have complained of Nakamura’s art style which is quite distinctive (really small heads and wide necks on the guys) but I think that it’s something one gets used to.

The premise is refreshing in that it’s nice to see a heroine having to deal with some nice earthy demons like malice and bitterness for once! I mean, I loved Tohru Honda of Takaya Natsuki’s Fruits Basket but man! What an act to follow!

Kyoko is imperfect in a very understandable way. She’s also stubborn and not willing to be walked all over! It’s just so rare to see strong, non-submissive women in this genre so big ups to Nakamura for providing us with another successful one!

The story really picked up for me by chapter 3 and after that I had that nice feeling of absolutely having to know what happens next!

There are two main bishounen in the series so far. There is blond Sho Fuwa the evil bastard who betrayed her and there is dark Ren Tsuruga who is the perfect, aristocratic number one hottest celebrity in Japan and who doesn’t like her. I say from my long history of struggling to read shoujo that them are some good odds for romance!

I have only reached volume seven but I am really enjoying this manga. On the whole it’s a high energy ride, sometimes wicked and sometimes sweet. It’s always funny though and I’m recommending it.

Nodame Cantabile

Also another shoujo I got into via the anime. I used to have a good portion of the series but I was storing it on my ipod and when that crashed, I was forced to say a bitter Sayonara to it.

Anyway, someone reminded me of it this year and I was like, Oh, yeah and I started downloading the manga. This is also not a typical shoujo as it has a very relaxed and almost whimsical slice of life feel to it. Also, though the series is named for the female lead, Nodame (Really Noda Megumi), it seems to me like the main character is actually the male lead, usually called Chiaki Sama or Senpai.

Chiaki is a genius pianist who wants to conduct in Europe under his mentor Sebastiano Viera. He is kept from this dream, however, by his fear of flying and is very embittered. The fun starts when this strait laced, perfectionist meets Nodame who is also a genius in her own way.

She can’t read music, but she can play anything from ear and her style is wild and emotional. She is also a filthy housekeeper who not only falls openly in love with Chiaki but attaches herself to him like a stray cat depending on him for food and the occasional clean place to bath (she is his neighbour).

I am currently in volume 3 of this series and I have found it both easy going and very, very funny. Tomoko Ninomiya’s beautiful, lightly sketched in art style adds to this feel and makes this manga a good entry point for anyone that may be put off by the tropes of the genre’s typical art styles (Huge eyes and no nose or mouth to speak of.)

Chiaki senpai as the male lead must stand in for the obligatory bishounen. He doesn’t really have the mouth watering androgynousness but he quite makes up for it in arrogance and status. Plus his never quite neat hair is cute.

I look forward to seeing where it all leads. It will take forever (*sigh) but I’m hoping it will be worth it.

Extra Info: Nodame Cantabile: Paris Chapter is currently showing as part of Fall 2008 Anime lineup in Japan and for those who just can’t get enough of this title, there is also a live action series (11 episodes covering up to vol 9) and a Two Episode Special both on FujiTV in Japan!!!

Oh, and Cantabile means to play with feeling.

Conclusion

Skip Beat and Nodame Cantabile are my recommendations for the season. Two funny, sweet, musical mangas that will leave you, like the best kind of dessert, wanting more.

I am grateful to the translators, editors, scanlators and everyone without whose help, people like me on my side of the world would have no hope of even hearing about these mangas much less actually seeing them! You guys work your butts off for free and I for one cannot appreciate you enough.

To those who actually have the opportunity to buy these works, don’t waste it! The other people who work their butts off on making our mangas happen are the mangakas themselves and every true manga fan knows there is no better cause to spend money on than in the feeding of a mangaka!

Therefore show love.

What’s a neogogo?

I’m a neogogo. And this blog is going to be about all the silly inconsequential stuff that we never talk about here. And by here I of course mean Nigeria.
As my header suggests, this will mainly consist of manga, gaming, foreign films and, since I don’t have a cat, my boyfriend.
Hope you like!
